Here in the Diocese of Atlanta, we believe in bridging the connections from youth into what's next in life. The Episcopal Church hasn't done the best job of finding ways to make those connections, and we haven't either. It is a difficult area to define ages and where you are in life.
With youth ministry, you are still in middle school or high school. Things change after high school. You may go to college or maybe you take another route. You may graduate in 6 years., but maybe you graduate earlier. You may get married at 25, but maybe you never marry. You may have children at 22 or maybe at 35! See all the differences life can throw at you after high school? These are just a few scenarios!
The work we are currently doing is defining young adult age groups more appropriately. We have 2 age ranges for Young Adult Ministry. We classify Campus Ministry for those ages 18-25. This applies for those attending college and those not attending college. We classify YAM, Young Adult Ministry, for those ages 22-35.
Campus Ministries We have different Campus Missions where you can plug into a community based on location, and we also have a retreat every February. Even if you don't attend college at one of our missions, you can still be a part of the group!, Visit our Campus Ministries page for more info on where you can find a community, and you can find information on our retreat here.
YAM (Young Adult Ministries) This is a brand new initiative for post college grads or anyone over 24. We have some great young adults planning our first every YAM Day Retreat. We don't know where this will lead us, but we pray it leads us to a full weekend retreat for those that have moved on from college but are still looking for a young adult community within the church. You can find more information about the retreat here.
